This is a serious simulator not just a game so expect to have to shoot from the gunsight not the external view (or play as tank commander and direct your gunner).
But the 'Battle Editor' option - joined in the new release by an 'instant action' mode - enables you to get more directly to the tank simulator component. Consider getting the re-released 2015 version, at time of writing available direct from Graviteam, from GamersGate or Steam (older versions may not be capable of accepting the available patches, which include some useful new features and improved documentation).The learning curve is quite steep, especially to play the campaigns, because they involve significant use of the wargame element.
